Google Calendar Invites
Add your events to your Google Calendar and invite guests when they RSVP.
Overview
Google Calendar Invites adds your Markit event to your own Google Calendar and invites each guest to it when they RSVP or buy a ticket. Guests get a standard Google Calendar invitation by email, so the event lands on their calendar with your title, time, location, and description.
You connect your Google account once, then turn invites on for each event you want. Nothing is added to your calendar until you turn it on for an event.
Connect Your Google Calendar
Connect from the Integrations tab on desktop:
- In Markit, open the Integrations tab.
- On the Google Calendar card, click Connect, then confirm.
- Choose the Google account whose calendar you want to use.
- Review the permission Google shows and click Allow.
- You'll land on a confirmation page, and the Google Calendar card will show the connected account.
Markit asks for one permission: to see, create, change, and delete events on Google calendars you own. It uses that only to create the calendar event for events where you turn on invites and to add guests to it. Markit does not read your other calendar events, contacts, or anything else in your Google account.
A Google account can only be connected to one Markit account at a time. If you try to connect one that's already linked elsewhere, you'll be asked to use a different account or disconnect it from the other Markit account first.
Turn On Invites for an Event
Once your calendar is connected, you'll see a Google Calendar Invites setting in your event's settings, right below Guest List. It's only shown to the event's host, and it's available when you create or edit an event on the web or in the app.
- Create or edit an event.
- Turn on Google Calendar Invites.
- Publish your event.
Turning it on adds an email question to your ticket questions if your event doesn't have one yet. While invites are on, that question shows a lock instead of a delete button, because it's where Markit gets each guest's email address. Keep the question required so every guest can be invited.
When you publish, Markit creates the event on your Google Calendar with your event's title, time, location, and description. If you turn invites on for a draft, the calendar event is created when you publish.
What Your Guests Get
- Guests enter their email in the email question when they RSVP or buy a ticket. Google then emails them an invitation, and the event appears on their calendar.
- Each guest only sees their own invitation. Guests can't see who else is invited, invite others, or change your event.
- Google Calendar allows up to 200 guests per calendar event, including you. After that, guests get a link in their confirmation text to add the event to their own calendar instead.
- A guest who skips the email question can't be invited.
Turning It Off or Disconnecting
Turn off for an event: switch Google Calendar Invites off in that event's settings. Markit stops inviting new guests. The calendar event and the guests already on it stay, and the email question stays on your form.
Disconnect your calendar: on the Integrations tab, click Disconnect on the Google Calendar card. Markit stops using your calendar and revokes its access. Events already on your calendar and invitations already sent stay, and you can delete them in Google Calendar. You can also remove Markit's access from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Good to Know
- Changes you make to an event's title, time, or location after the calendar event is created aren't synced yet. Update the event in Google Calendar as well.
- If you delete the calendar event in Google Calendar, new guests get the add-to-calendar link instead of an invitation.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Google Calendar Invites in my event settings. Connect your Google Calendar from the Integrations tab first. The setting only appears for the event's host.
The Google Calendar card says Reconnect needed. Markit lost access to your calendar, usually because access was removed in your Google Account. Click Reconnect to grant it again.
A guest didn't get an invitation. Check that they answered the email question with a valid address, and ask them to check spam. If your event has more than 200 guests, later guests get the add-to-calendar link in their confirmation text.
